The Aveda Story
Our founder, Horst Rechelbacher, started Aveda in 1978 as a pledge to eliminate toxic chemicals from products and cosmetics. He successfully created earth-friendly products to make a difference- for now and for the future. To help promote your well-being, our products feature aromas formulated with flower and plant essences to awaken your senses. In order to protect the precious Earth we live in, Aveda has committed to using organic ingredients and does not test on animals. Aveda is the first beauty company manufacturing with 100% certified wind power, which is produced without air emissions such as carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide.
Changing Lives in Nepal
For nine years, we have purchased handcrafted paper from Nepal to wrap our gift boxes. This beautiful Nepal Lokta Bark paper has done much more than adorn our packaging, it has changed lives. In spring 2015, massive earthquakes shook Nepal and millions lost homes and livelihoods. Many emigrated away. Yet 4900* resilient papermakers have stayed, and our commitment to our partnership which began in 2007 remains while they build lives and communities and provide for their children's' education.
Every year in April, Aveda raises awareness to protect clean water at home and around the world. Since 1999, Aveda has raised an astounding $50 million for the clean water fund. For 2016, the total contribution alone was $6.4 million dollars. Our proceeds went to our local partners: Gulf Restoration Network and Mississippi Riverkeeper!
Every year during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Aveda releases a limited-edition of our best selling hand relief™ moisturizing creme, and donates $4 from each purchase to the non-profit organization, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation® (BCRF). Donations from Aveda are used to fund cruelty-free research exploring environmental causes and links to breast cancer, such as exposure to toxic chemicals and pollutants. Together, we have raised more than $3.9 million since 2001.
